TNR-Dogs

We manage a TNR program for the dogs of the community of Popesti-Leordeni, near the ring of Bucharest, where our shelter is located. But we cannot do it without our volunteer work. We catch 10-12 dogs/week, transport them by the van of Animaux sans Frontieres, sterilize them, accommodate post-operator for 8-10 days at our shelter. We deparasitate, deworm and vaccinate them. We also mark them tipping and fixing a pink ear-ring number. After all these we return them back. If some of these dogs are sick or injured we keep them for treatment. Usually these dogs belong to communities of people living in small blocks, or to factories, warehouses, workshops etc. These people take care of them, feed and protect them. We sterilize also the dogs with owners, dogs living in their courtyards.

We printed leaflets informing people about the advantages of sterilization and about this program. We shared these leaflets in the community and the people are cooperating very well. As you may see in the photos people taking care of them were coming to visit them during post-operator period. Also they help us to catch or bring them by themselves. When we see them so happy and so willing to cooperate with us we gain power to continue.

In 2004 we signed a protocol with the mayor of Popesti-Leordeni for TNR for cats and dogs. After two years, in which they noticed that we've made a good job, they asked us to cooperate together to solve the strays problem in the town.

If somebody wants to give a financial support in order to increase the number of sterilization, to extend the program and to solve quicker this problem, please contact us. We also need a tranquilize gun and a van for transport.
